2001 Monetevetrano IGT, Campania, Italy

So a Cotarella wine next after the fantastic ’99 Cascina Francia – it can only go wrong, but it didn’t. This is truly a breathtaking wine and the best Montevetrano I have ever tasted. For starters it has the normal dull blackcurrant – dark overripe berries, but it has s massive mineral/graphite snap which takes the wine to a league of its own. Taste is long, strong and overall fantastic – it screams for a refill.
